We had a wonderful outreach to the surrounding community at IDADEE, in August. It was a "Kids Fest". Orchard Hills Church from the Pittsburgh, PA. area sponsored it. Shannon Miller lead it, and was responsible for getting it organized and set up. It was a fantastic week, with 435 children from the area attending for the 5 days.
First thing in the morning there was a general assembly where they sang, prayed and were given their assignments for the day. There were 40 groups of kids and there were three areas which the kids attended. One was Bible study. Another arts and crafts and then games. While some headed to Bible Study after the assembly, others went to arts and crafts and the third group went to games. At the whistle, they changed to the next area.
The photos below show some of what went on. The Bible study group sat under the shade of trees, on tarps.
The arts and crafts groups were under smaller tents. Each day was a different Bible craft for them to do.
There were games...everything from tug of war to potato sack races to soccer games...the kids had a ball with that.
In the middle of the day, they paused for a meal. Can you imagine feeding over 500 people (children, leaders, staff and cooks) in under half an hour? They did it, and did a great job.
Sunday they had church service and invited parents and family. Over 1,000 people showed up and heard the gospel. And in the service the 60 children who had accepted the Lord that week were honored. What a resounding success Kids Fest was.
And now, plans are already in the works for Kids Fest 2011...next August.
